easy peasy lemon squeezy

My son came home today asking if I could make him a pencil case for school. So I thought I would share with you how I made this simple pencil case (or could be used as a make-up bag) that is perfect for young sewers or beginners.

What you need:
2 pieces of fabric 5 x 10 1/2
1 9" zipper
4" piece of coordinating ribbon (3/8" works best)

1. Cut two pieces of fabric 5 x 10 1/2

2. Place your zipper teeth side down to the right side of one of the fabric pieces matching the edge of the zipper tape to the edge of the fabric. Using your zipper foot, stitch as close as you can to the teeth (usually about an 1/8")

3. Take the other piece, and with right sides together, matching the zipper tape to the edge of the fabric, stitch zipper foot width from the edge of the fabric, catching the fabric and the zipper tape.

4. Still using your zipper foot, top stitch both sides about an 1/8" from teeth.

5. Fold your ribbon in half and pin raw edges together (loop will face inside).

6. Open your zipper about 5" and fold your bag in half matching all edges and straight stitch all the way around. Zigzag edges or serge to finish. Turn your bag right side out...

And you're finished...Enjoy =]

I Have Spirit

I am so excited to share with you all...my newest pattern, I Have Spirit, is now available in my Etsy Shop.

I have submitted it to YCMT for their consideration, so we will have to wait and see how that will turn out.
